KUARIST QUARTET

KUARIST, a term created from a combination of words in Esperanto, means ‘between four. Just as the objective of this language is integration and global communication, the project shaped by these young artists connects recently created works with traditional classical repertoire, always from the perspective of a saxophone ensemble.

They began their journey by inaugurating the ‘NAK 2020’ Contemporary Music Festival with the show ‘Connexió,’ bridging the gap between traditional and avant-garde music, and qualified for the final stage of the international chamber music competition ‘La Folia Nuova.’ In 2021, they collaborated with narrator and actress Belén Otxotorena in preparing an educational children’s concert titled ‘Kua – Kua…Kuarist!,’ a performance based on Greek mythology that introduces the little ones to the music of the saxophone ensemble.

In the 2022/2023 season, they developed two stage proposals: the concert ‘Sons Estivals’ that connects classical music works with different moments and emotions associated with summer, and the project ‘Del Mite al Logos,’ together with CMC Garaikideak from Pamplona, where they premiered three musical pieces based on Japanese mythology, composed and commissioned for the ensemble. In 2023, they won the 1st prize at the International New Music Creation Contest Re_Cre@.

In the 2023/2024 season, they present the concert ‘Música i Poder,’ a show in collaboration with UNED that analyzes the historical relationship between musical production and the mechanisms that legitimized the great European monarchies. Similarly, they participate as a guest group in the International Saxophone Congress held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The musicians forming this quartet have received classical and contemporary training in prestigious conservatories such as PESMD Bordeaux Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Conservatori Superior de Música de Castella i Lleó, Conservatori Superior de Música de Navarra, Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears, and Conservatori Superior del Principat d’Astúries.
